Jana Pilátová is a professor in the Theatre Department of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU), where she has lectured since 1990. In 1968 she did an internship in the Laboratory Theatre, and since then has published, in Czech Republic and abroad, articles on the work of Jerzy Grotowski as well as of his apprentices and continuators. She also translates their texts. The synthesis of the many years of her reflections on Grotowski’s achievements can be found in her book Hnízdo Grotowského. Na prahu divadelní antropologie, published in 2009. She collaborates with Odin Teatret within the International School of Theatre Anthropology (ISTA). In 1998–2002 she led the Integrational Creativity Programme, where theatre played a therapeutical role. She works as a dramaturg with the independent theatre ensembles Teatr Continuo and Farm in the Cave. In 2005 she was awarded the Czech Living Treasure prize, and in 2009 the honorary Badge of Merit for Polish Culture. She is the curator of the project More than Theatre run in the Grotowski Institute.
