Remix as a Lesson

A remix of Konrad Swinarski’s Forefathers’ Eve produced at the Helena Modrzejewska Stary Theatre in Kraków (first performed on 18 February 1973)

Remix as a lesson, remix as a medium of communication between generations. The meeting with Jerzy Trela prepared by students of the Faculty of Acting of the PWSTNational Academy of Theatre Arts in Kraków may represent an essential application of the category of ‘undoing’, in a risky project of conjuring up the past. The actor’s voice and presence will always remain the most appropriate medium for memory. The aspect of technique, as well as that of constructing, or even of composing memory seems to be of key importance here. Every single quality flowing from the stage, no matter how small it is, carries a meaning, helping one to set free the past. It is at once a lesson and a séance; at the same time. It’s an attempt to grab Konrad by the ankle.
