A series of workshops for young directors

Directors’ Forum

Chaired by
Eugenio Barba, Walery Fokin, Iwona Kempa, Anatoly Vasiliev

Among the principles of Theatre Olympics are the broadening of the knowledge about the achievements in theatre art and dialogue between subsequent generations of artists. The workshops aim at enriching the palette of tools of the young director thanks to the direct contact with remarkable practitioners of contemporary stagecraft who represent various styles and use different working methods. The exchange of experiences between the participants – both students or graduates from state theatre schools, as well as those who have not had formal schooling, but who acquire stagecraft experience thanks to work in independent theatre – is a key principle of the cycle.

The programme of Directors’ Forum will comprise:

Valery Fokin’s seminar dealing with the issues related to director’s analysis of the dramatic text, basing on The Government Inspector by Nikolai Gogol

Eugenio Barba’s lecture The Perception of Time and Space from the Spectator’s Perspective: Dramaturgic Structure of Simultaneity and Succession combined with the screening of the film Unstable Space Of Theatre (dir. Claudio Coloberti)

Practical workshop led by Iwona Kempa, dedicated to the director-actor-character relation and the role of the director in the process of constructing the character by the actor

Anatoly Vasiliev’s seminar with elements of practical exercises: The Tools of the Director – Analysis of the Dramatic Text, basing on Platonov by Anton Chekhov

Enrolment completed.
